600,000 Kiwi businesses using .nz domain name
InternetNZ has today that the 600,000th .nz domain name was registered last week. The milestone was passed just before 5pm, Wednesday 28th January 2015.
Recent growth has been supported by the launch of shorter .nz domain names allowing for more choice, for example: anyname.nz rather than anyname.co.nz.
The .nz domain name became available for businesses to register at the end of September 2014, in what was touted as the biggest shake up to New Zealand domain names.
"People will be able to register shorter, simpler, more representative domain names directly at .nz in addition to all of the existing domain names," Campbell Gardiner from the Domain Name Commission said at the time.
Jordan Carter, InternetNZ chief executive, says he is pleased that .nz continues to be the domain name of choice for New Zealanders in the face of growing competition in the market.
"The internet has brought the world to our doorstep and despite the almost limitless choices that people now have, recent research shows that Kiwis continue to overwhelmingly see .nz as the most trust-worthy domain space," he says.
