ABOUT YOU Group appoints AWS as preferred provider for SCAYLE
Thu, 30th Nov 2023

The ABOUT YOU Group has designated Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the preferred cloud provider for SCAYLE, its Commerce as a Service (CaaS) solution.

The Hamburg-based fashion giant has positioned SCAYLE as a standalone business and SaaS solution, leveraging AWS's capabilities to serve more than 140 online stores globally.

With a stellar growth of more than 63% annually during its initial eight years and boasting group revenues of 1.9 billion euros, ABOUT YOU Group is planning international expansion for SCAYLE. It's customers include prevalent international enterprise brands and retailers such as Deichmann, Fielmann, and FC Bayern.

SCAYLE provides a state-of-art commerce platform for aspiring businesses to emulate ABOUT YOU'S success within the retail sector. Initially, ABOUT YOU had migrated from on-premises servers to AWS in 2017 to facilitate the successful growth of its online fashion store. Now, SCAYLE leverages an evolved form of the same infrastructure, which currently manages more successful transactions than any other platform in Europe.

As the core of the platform, AWS offers a modern commerce technology with an expansive built-in feature set. This includes native Product Information Management (PIM), Shop Management, Checkout, and Order Management; all integrated with purpose-built, user-friendly dashboards. It also synthesises online and offline purchases encouraging control of the digital retail experience without the need for specific coding skills.

AWS's scalability in compute capacity and database services forms the backbone for SCAYLE's ability to assist growing businesses in the commerce sector. It balances loads and scales its platform using services like Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Amazon Elastic Load Balancing (ELB).

Additional AWS services used include Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon OpenSearch, Amazon Relational Database Services (RDS), Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), and Simple Notification Service (SNS).

Tanuja Randery, Managing Director of AWS Europe, Middle East, and Africa, said, "The success of the ABOUT YOU online store and SCAYLE perfectly illustrates the impact of cloud-native architectures for building scalable, secure, innovative, and intuitive platforms that meet the particular needs of online retailers."

"The next stage of SCAYLE's growth will be a very exciting one, unlocking the potential of the cloud to drive innovation and growth for businesses worldwide."

Reflecting on ABOUT YOU's journey, Christopher Metz, the former Director of Cloud and IT Operations at ABOUT YOU and now Managing Director Platforms at SCAYLE, added, "The decision to move from on-premises infrastructure to AWS removed potential bottlenecks for our growth and enabled us to build a fast, responsive, scalable platform that's uniquely suited to the needs of retailers."

"Making SCAYLE accessible to customers as a standalone business, with AWS as its preferred cloud provider, is enabling us to quickly provide a state-of-the-art high-performance platform to our customers that allows them to grow their business sustainably as market leaders".
