Cloudinary launches 3D platform to boost e-commerce sales
Cloudinary has announced the launch of Cloudinary 3D, a platform aimed at enhancing how e-commerce brands present their products through immersive 3D and augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Cloudinary 3D is designed to allow retail and e-commerce brands to effortlessly create and distribute 3D, AR, and photorealistic product visuals at scale. This approach is expected to increase customer engagement by allowing potential buyers to examine key product details such as size, texture, and design before purchase. This aims to reduce cart abandonment and product returns significantly, with reported reductions of nearly 50% and around a third, respectively.
Steve Doll, Director of Web Marketing & UX/UI at gaming retailer Corsair, noted the impact of Cloudinary 3D on product presentation. He stated, "Cloudinary 3D has significantly improved how we showcase our products, allowing customers to explore them in AR and truly understand their size and fit. The functionality is excellent, and the support from the Cloudinary team has been exceptional."
The market research indicates that traditional methods for creating 3D and AR assets often involve high costs and time burdens, leading many brands to forgo such strategies. However, Cloudinary 3D seeks to overcome these challenges by simplifying the creation of high-quality visual content, transforming 3D models into photorealistic images, and automating the content creation process, thereby reducing production costs and speeding up time to market.
Early users of Cloudinary 3D have reportedly found the platform delivers notable value to both their businesses and customers. "We've seen a lot of customers using Cloudinary's AR features, and the feedback has been fantastic," Doll added. "They're a trusted partner for the long term as we continue to enhance our 3D experiences."
Cloudinary 3D offers several features that benefit e-commerce sites. These include 3D and AR product interactions, personalised shopping experiences with variations in colour and material, and the generation of consistent, photorealistic visuals. Additionally, the platform's developer-friendly design allows for seamless integration with existing workflows, facilitating collaboration between creative and marketing teams.
Yair Miranda, General Manager of Cloudinary 3D, commented on the company's vision for the platform, "We believe immersive 3D content is the future of e-commerce, and Cloudinary 3D makes it accessible for every business, large or small. Delivering on our commitment to empower brands to create extraordinary digital experiences, Cloudinary 3D allows brands to greatly simplify their workflows and modify how they go to market—all at a fraction of the cost and complexity."
The introduction of Cloudinary 3D marks another step for brands in creating engaging visual content to optimise consumer buying decisions and diminish dissatisfaction and returns.
