Originating over 25 years ago from humble beginnings in New Zealand by a school principal and a teacher, New Era Technology has expanded significantly. Gilbert reflects on this growth, saying, "Interestingly enough, those businesses that were acquired and our kind of growth internationally, they all took on the name New Era Technology, which was started here in New Zealand."
The company boasts a global footprint with 64 offices, from Paris to New York to India, providing comprehensive tech solutions across the board. In New Zealand alone, New Era employs about 200 individuals, deeply embedded from education sectors to commercial enterprises. Gilbert highlights the significance of their local expansion: "We have people everywhere if required on the ground, but we have all of those wraparound services that come with it, like help desks and engineers and projects and all those sorts of pieces as well."
Recent years have seen New Era focusing significantly on cloud technologies and AI. Gilbert elaborates on the shift towards cloud integration, which has been pivotal in alleviating financial strains for educational institutions and businesses alike. "The big shift for us has been that movement to the cloud and integration... We've really evolved around that space," he states, underscoring the strategic evolution towards more sustainable tech solutions.
AI, too, has become a cornerstone of New Era's strategy. Gilbert passionately discusses the transformative potential of AI within their operations: "AI is a massive issue at the moment. So being able to give that sort of trusted, qualified advice is massive for us because, you know, it's easy to say cloud, but there's so many parts to it."
The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges but also accelerated the adoption of remote working technologies among New Era's clients. Gilbert observes a silver lining in how the pandemic has transformed business operations: "The pendulum is swinging back now a little bit... people have accelerated their adoption and understanding of some technologies because that's been pretty exciting for us, actually."
Looking forward to the rest of 2024, Gilbert is optimistic about leveraging New Era’s extensive network to penetrate commercial markets further. "The rest of 2024 is, I think, consolidation back to normal for our clients. And alongside that, there's obviously growth that we want to retain," he remarks, foreseeing a year of strategic expansion and enhanced service delivery.
