A traffic control company and a business importing vintners’ products are among the businesses that have been selected as finalists for Greentree’s Game On competition.

The contest asked kiwi businesses to share their IT ‘pain points’ to be in to win a $250,000 software package.

The final result is split 50-50 between the judges’ scoring and a public vote.

Greentree CEO Peter Dickinson says the finalists were chosen not simply for being the most deserving business but for having the most potential to benefit from the software boost.

"While their work is diverse,” Dickinson says, "they share common issues of running outdated, non-integrated systems. They all want better visibility of their performance, and are confident they can grow stronger with better computing power.”

BGH Group: Bay of Plenty-based engineering product suppliers, a subsidiary of which has recently been pumping oil from stranded container ship Rena.

Directionz: Specialist installer of road signs and associated equipment.

Gemco Construction: Hawke’s Bay business currently working on the Napier museum and art gallery.

Harding Traffic: Provider of parking and traffic control technology.

Harrex Group: Southland-based accounting and strategy firm.

Kauri NZ: Importers of vintners’ products, located in Wellington.

NZ Controls: Electrical and software design, engineering and development firm.

Parmco Appliances: Auckland-based sellers of high-end kitchen technology.

Resolve Group: Specialists in tricky transport problems.

Smail & Co: Manufacturer and importer of bathroom products, based in Christchurch and sure to have plenty of work in the immediate future.
