Fortinet’s secure WiFi: How to switch-on your business

Thu, 10th Mar 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Your staff wants it. Your customers demand it. And you need it. What is 'it'? Secure WiFi. People run their private and professional lives on their mobile devices. So it makes sense for you to provide safe and secure Internet and network access so that everyone at your facility – staff, customers and visitors - can stay connected.

"Secure wireless access to the Internet is no longer an option," says Andrew Khan, Fortinet Senior Business Manager at Ingram Micro, New Zealand's largest distributor of Fortinet's cyber-security solutions. "Business is conducted on-line, regardless of location. Sure, people can and do use the 4G mobile broadband network, but for business and any sort of traffic-intensive applications, secure WiFi is the preferred access option. It's faster, cheaper and, if done correctly, much more secure.

Secure WiFi: Integrated, infrastructure or in the cloud There are three options for secure WiFi deployments: integrated, infrastructure and cloud. "Integrated secure WiFi works in conjunction with a FortiGate next generation firewall," says Khan. "The FortiGate firewall controls all of the functions of the WiFi access points. Infrastructure-based secure WiFi combines a standalone web controller without the need of a dedicated firewall. This keeps your WiFi and business networks separate for enhanced security. And cloud-based WiFi can be managed from a cloud-based interface without the need for a firewall or separate controller. All of these deployments can scale up or down as required.

The Fortinet advantage Fortinet supports secure WiFi as easily as other wireless access point providers support unprotected WiFi because, as security specialists, Fortinet has embedded the security 'logic' inside the access point itself. "Fortinet has developed a purpose-built chip, the FortiASIC chip, that handles the security operations," says Khan. "For cloud-based deployments, Fortinet's secure access points are loaded with advanced security features like intrusion prevention, web filtering, rouge AP detection, antivirus security protection, granular application controls and more, all running directly on the access point.

All deployment options are all backed by FortiGuard Labs' industry-leading threat intelligence to ensure each secure access point is protected against the very latest advanced threats, in real-time. This sophisticated level of hardware and software integration is only made possible by Fortinet's expertise and dedication to high-performance security engineering and research.

Fast installation Your local Authorised Fortinet Partner can install secure WiFi at your facility quickly and easily. Some access points incorporate Power over Ethernet so you can avoid running electric cables for ease-of-installation. Plus they can show you how to manage the secure access points. That's all there is to it.

Your staff, customers and guests will appreciate the convenience and safety of secure WiFi. It's fast becoming a 'must-have' for businesses of all sizes. And with the Fortinet secure access points, secure WiFi is now easier than ever for you to install and manage
