Four ways AI can ease tedious, everyday tasks

Fri, 11th Sep 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to smart computer programs that may one day become as smart as humans – though not as creative.

Even their current development was unexpected - no one foresaw machines becoming as smart as they are today. Technology has made many 'impossible' things possible. Here are some examples.

Increase business sales

Before the beginning of AI, there were already many tools and management systems that streamlined all processes of every business - but they all required a human to operate them. They worked perfectly as software, but they didn't have AI.

Today, there are tools that help businesses grow their sales and even provide customer service without the help of an operator. Organisations can leverage multiple different AI platforms, which have the power to provide a personalised experience to every visitor, dynamic price quotes, and sell to prospects intelligently.

Safely drive

Although it was somewhat predicted decades ago that there would be self-driving cars, their implementation was more difficult than anticipated.

AI has contributed much towards this effort, to the point where today there are have several vehicles confirmed to safely drive themselves.

At an instinctual level, driving requires one to predict the future a little ahead of time and do some calculations with speed and distance to avoid collisions. With the help of AI, the cognitive work required to make these decisions has become much more efficient.

Book appointments

This is another example of an everyday task executed especially succinctly by AI.

There are smart computer programs that will make the call and talk to a human to schedule your appointment at a predetermined time. The tedious experience of being put on hold can be skipped entirely, passed onto to an insentient program which is less capable of becoming bored.

Diagnose health issues

Like many other scientific fields, the world of medicine is filled with intricate details, and the stakes are high if the wrong decisions are made - it can quite literally be a matter of life and death.

In many areas, medicine requires the expertise of an experienced human. But in others, AI can help.

Many computers help doctors perform complex surgeries, as well as programs that help diagnose illnesses, detect abnormalities in cell growth to prevent cancers, and increase physician accuracy while progressing through their workload at speed.

Of course, there are many more than just four ways in which AI can make everyday processes easier. And as time goes on, more still will be added to this tally.
