Vector Comms brings Amazon Web Services to Kiwi businesses

Mon, 23rd Nov 2015
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In order to make private connectivity more accessible for Kiwi businesses, Vector Communications is giving New Zealand companies the chance to trial Amazon Web Services at no cost.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a comprehensive, evolving cloud computing platform provided by Amazon.com. The first AWS offerings were launched in 2006 to provide online services for websites and client-side applications.

From now until the end of January 2016, Vector Comms is offering free connectivity of 50Mbit/s to AWS in Sydney.

According to the company, the deal provides an opportunity for companies to see if using critical process apps in this way works for their business with minimal-to-no risk and cost.

For example, if they like the service, they may choose to move their accounting and payroll functions to a private connection with AWS.

At the end of January, companies can decide whether to continue with the connection or stop the service, the company says.

Vector Comms says the offer is best-suited for companies which are already connected to AWS, but via the internet.

Private connectivity via Vector Comms will give them a dedicated connection - this means they won't be sharing bandwidth with anyone else and ensures there are no issues with speed or privacy, the company says.

The free connectivity can be implemented quickly but, if companies need time to get ready, Vector Comms can switch on the service at any time, the company says.

For businesses already on the Vector Comms fibre network, the trial is free. However, if their premises are not yet connected to fibre, a fee may apply to set up the Ethernet link.
