Geeks on Wheels lands in Dunedin
Geeks on Wheels has launched in Dunedin in response to increased demand in the area following the rollout of UFB.
A New Zealand company, Geeks on Wheels is a mobile computer support firm with staff based around the country, including Auckland Hamilton. Cambridge, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Christchurch.
"The new service is a refreshing and much needed addition to the Dunedin consumer's technology experience," says Matthew Carr-Gomm, CEO of Geeks on Wheels.
"With the region leading New Zealand's ultra-fast broadband roll out, it is important that consumers have someone who can travel to them to answer computer questions, and ensure they are kept up to speed with the fast changing nature of technology," he says.
The company offers on-site services to work on PCs, Apple Macs and smart devices.
Local technician Andrew Richardson adds, "We are finding lots of people are upgrading to ultra-fast broadband but not necessarily making the most of the benefits it has to offer.
"Making sure homes have strong Wi-Fi signal throughout all rooms, smart devices properly connected and synced together, or optimising computer and router settings are some of the things we can do to ensure the best experience from Dunedin's gigabit internet speed," he says.
Geeks on Wheels focuses on the home and small business market and trades six days a week.
"It is the extended hours and our ability to travel to a customer's home or business that set us apart," Carr-Gomm says.
Carr-Gomm says the company currently has two local technicians in Dunedin, but as demand grows they will be looking to hire further staff.
He says it is really important to get the right balance of skills when hiring a new technician, which can sometimes take a long time.
"Geeks on Wheels requires a unique blend of technical ability, and interpersonal skills to ensure that computer issues are explained in plain English without any IT jargon," he explains.
"Having New Zealand's fastest broadband is great for Dunedin, the rest of the country is very jealous. However, it is also important that consumers' IT knowledge is kept up to speed and that's what we help out with.
