MYOB launches AI tools for BAS, insights & invoicing
MYOB has begun rolling out a suite of AI agents and AI-based features across its small and medium-sized business software range, including what it describes as Australia's first AI-enabled business activity statement product.
The new tools span MYOB's SME portfolio, including Solo by MYOB, MYOB Business Lite and Pro, and AccountRight. They are at different stages of beta release and will be made available to customers progressively.
One of the headline additions is AI BAS, aimed at quarterly business activity statement preparation. MYOB describes it as an "agentic" BAS product, with the initial release focused on sole traders.
AI for BAS
Australia has about 2.61 million GST-registered small businesses, according to MYOB. It is positioning AI BAS as a way to reduce the manual work involved in preparing quarterly lodgements for those businesses and the accountants and bookkeepers who support them.
AI BAS reviews transactions and suggests BAS treatments. It also flags anomalies for the business owner or adviser to review, then generates a pre-populated report with BAS lodgement totals for an accountant or bookkeeper sign-off.
MYOB Chief Executive Paul Robson linked the broader rollout to the company's product strategy in Australia and New Zealand, saying incremental time savings can make a noticeable difference for small firms.
"We are focused on investing our innovation in areas we know will drive maximum value for our customers and partners, directed by MYOB's deep knowledge of what makes Australian and New Zealand businesses more successful," Robson said.
Insights tools
Another feature, AI Business Insights, targets how small businesses interpret financial performance. It produces interactive charts and written commentary to highlight patterns and areas that need attention.
MYOB says the feature "tells the story behind the numbers" through plain-language explanations. It is also aimed at accounting and bookkeeping partners who want to surface trends and drivers for client conversations.
Reconciliation automation
MYOB is also introducing Smart Reconciliation, which automatically matches bank feed transactions to categories and reconciles them on a user-selected schedule. The feature uses machine learning and learns from user behaviour when selecting categories.
MYOB says the automation reduces administrative work and gives businesses a more current view of spending and cash flow. Accountants and bookkeepers also receive cleaner files for review and submission.
Invoice chasing
A fourth update targets late payments, a common pressure point for SMEs. MYOB cited its Bi-Annual Business Monitor, which found 18% of respondents said late payments were a cause of "extreme pressure" in the November 2025 edition.
Smart Invoice Reminders suggests next actions based on customer late-payer behaviour, according to MYOB. It proposes tone options for messages and lets businesses set schedules for automatic reminders.
MYOB says the feature saves business owners time and can give advisers clearer visibility into a client's cashflow position.
Robson said the releases reflect a focus on applying AI in day-to-day workflows and emphasised governance.
"We are focused on designing products that prioritise the responsible and secure application of AI in workflows that make the most sense to real-life business, meeting our customers where they are in their AI journey while delivering exceptional technology experiences," the CEO said.
MYOB is not alone in adding AI-based automation and analysis to accounting and compliance workflows. Competitors include other accounting software vendors and a growing market of specialist tools focused on tasks such as invoice processing, payment chasing, and transaction categorisation.
Releasing multiple AI features across products at once points to a strategy spanning compliance preparation, bookkeeping, and business insight. It also underscores MYOB's reliance on accountants and bookkeepers as a distribution and service channel for SMEs, especially where review and sign-off remain part of the process.
"AI will completely change the game for small businesses and their advisors, powering up productivity and accelerating innovation beyond anything we've seen before. This is just the start of a new era for Australia's economic engine room, the nation's 2.6 million small businesses, and MYOB is excited to be at the forefront of it," said Robson.
MYOB says customers will see the new AI agents and features at different times as the beta rollout continues across Solo, Business Lite and Pro, and AccountRight.
