Servers stories - Page 24
Servers are the larger, more powerful computers typically found in data centres, though the term
‘server’ more correctly refers to the software program called upon by a client (usually a software
program on another computer) to perform some sort of action or task. These software programmes are
typically housed on these specialised computers, though they can be housed on any type of computer.
Modern servers can be of various types including specifically-designed hardware (such as mainframes)
featuring proprietary or specialised processors and other componentry, or can be housed in blade
servers made from modular ‘blades’ manufactured from commodity hardware components.
