GoCardless appoints new MD for international expansion

Thu, 17th Oct 2024

Alexandra Chiaramonti has been appointed as the new Managing Director of GoCardless's international operations, a move aimed at enhancing the company's global growth strategy.

Chiaramonti will lead the fintech firm to strengthen its presence beyond the UK and Ireland, with particular emphasis on Europe and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, including Australia and New Zealand. These territories are considered vital parts of GoCardless's strategy to increase its foothold in APAC.

Since joining GoCardless in 2021 as Vice President and General Manager for EMEA, Chiaramonti has seen the company's new business bookings triple in 2023, and revenue in the region has grown by 40%. This success resulted in a 49% increase in international revenue overall.

GoCardless aims to significantly increase its revenue from outside the UK and Ireland over the next three years, and Chiaramonti's experience will be crucial in this endeavour.

Paul Stoddart, President at GoCardless, commented on her appointment, noting: "We've made fantastic progress across our international business over the past few years, with each market exceeding targets across new customer acquisition and new revenue generation. There remains a significant opportunity for GoCardless and the MD of International will be instrumental in driving further growth. With her outstanding achievements in Europe and extensive experience in scaling and expanding businesses globally, I'm confident that Alex is the right leader to help us reach our objectives."

Chiaramonti herself expressed anticipation regarding her expanded role: "I'm incredibly excited to step into this role, working alongside our talented teams across the world. In every market, businesses are calling out for new ways to increase revenue, cut costs, provide a best-in-class customer experience and remove frustrating admin tasks from their day-to-day operations -- in short, everything that bank payments could help them to achieve. The opportunity for us is huge. I look forward to making GoCardless the go-to payment provider for ambitious, growing businesses everywhere."

This leadership change follows GoCardless's broader international expansion, including the recent appointment of a new Vice President of Operations and site lead for its Riga office, signifying the establishment of a second headquarters outside of the UK.

Additionally, GoCardless has expanded its international outreach through partnerships, having launched GoCardless for Salesforce on Salesforce AppExchange and offering its services in the Intuit QuickBooks Marketplace for Australia and the United States. These efforts aim to enhance GoCardless's service offerings, including the Instant Bank Pay feature powered by open banking.
