WiseTech Global has launched CargoWise Value Packs, a new packaging and pricing model for its CargoWise logistics software. It removes seat fees and standard cloud hosting charges and shifts billing to a per-transaction basis.
The change replaces the seat-and-transaction licence model introduced in 2014. WiseTech said most customers were notified ahead of the launch and that the new packs are now available to them.
CargoWise is used by freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouse operators and land transport providers. The new model introduces four packs tailored to forwarding, customs, warehousing and land transport, with variations for each segment.
Under the new structure, charges relate to a logistics job, such as a shipment, a stand-alone customs declaration, a land transport movement or a warehouse order line. WiseTech said logistics service providers can pass the charges through to their own customers as a disbursement, similar to how some industry fees are handled.
Billing shift
Value Packs remove CargoWise Cloud standard hosting costs and per-seat fees from billing line items. WiseTech said the change simplifies billing for customers that previously managed a mix of user licences, transactions and hosting charges.
The new packs also bundle a wider set of product modules into the base transaction price. WiseTech said additional functionality will be added over time as it continues investing across logistics execution and supply chain management workflows.
WiseTech said the change responds to customer feedback about the complexity of adopting new modules. A per-transaction structure can reduce the need for logistics operators to predict seat numbers and module usage in advance, which can slow software roll-outs across operational teams.
Module access
WiseTech said the packs include more than 216 modules and functions for logistics service providers. It said 198 "capabilities" are available within the packs, including features released under the Early Access Agreement over the past year.
For importers, exporters and international traders that work with CargoWise-based providers, WiseTech said the packs include more than 116 new capabilities. It said the offering includes an expanded version of CargoWise Neo, aimed at the customers of logistics providers rather than the providers themselves.
WiseTech said some supply chain management tools and modules from the e2open product suite are also available through the Value Packs for importers and exporters. WiseTech has been integrating e2open assets since acquiring the company, broadening its footprint beyond freight forwarding and customs workflows into a wider set of planning and supply chain functions.
AI features
According to WiseTech, the Value Packs include access to its AI automation features, including the AI workflow engine and AI management engine, AI Classification Assistant, ComplianceWise and the AI CargoWise Expert chatbot.
WiseTech said the tools reduce labour, mitigate risk and improve productivity for operational staff and managers in logistics organisations.
AI has become a more prominent factor in logistics software procurement as operators seek automation for repetitive data entry, classification work and exception handling. Vendors are also adding AI assistants to user interfaces to speed up training and reduce time spent navigating complex workflow screens.
Training offer
WiseTech said training and certification through WiseTech Academy is included for CargoWise Value Pack customers, with exceptions for a small number of third-party courses. It said the academy includes online training and certification resources for CargoWise and logistics industry certification, as well as business and management courseware.
Richard White, WiseTech Global co-founder and chief innovation officer, said the new structure broadens what customers receive in the base price while changing how overheads appear in budgets.
"The CargoWise Value Packs offer our customers a major enhancement in value and capability. The AI workflow engine and AI management engine, along with many other features, are set to revolutionize international logistics and internal trade execution. The new commercial model's high-value modules, dramatically reduced software overheads and simplified billing via a single CargoWise Value Pack, benefit our logistics customers as well as their exporters, importers and international trader customers, through automation and enhanced productivity."
"To accelerate this transformation, WiseTech will provide incentives for our customers' staff to develop their skills via the WiseTech Academy, helping them to lift their capabilities, throughput and productivity," White said.
Chief executive officer Zubin Appoo described the launch as part of the company's progress against its strategic objectives and said WiseTech adjusted the billing model following customer input.
"The release of our CargoWise Value Packs is indicative of the significant progress we are making in achieving our strategic objectives. We've responded to customer feedback by simplifying the CargoWise billing model and delivering access to many additional powerful features and functions via a single charge per transaction. This removes a critical barrier to adopting new modules and signing new customers. And more capabilities will be added over time. Ultimately, this will help drive ongoing digitalization across the industry," Appoo said.
Appoo linked the Value Packs to other initiatives under way at WiseTech, including AI workflow products and Container Transport Optimization, and pointed to the ongoing integration of e2open's products across international trade and logistics use cases.
"The team and I remain laser focused on delivering industry innovation for our customers, including our new AI workflow offerings and Container Transport Optimization, while optimizing the vast opportunities our integration of e2open brings to our customers in both international trade and logistics and across the global and domestic supply chain," Appoo said.
